Jamie Vardy Announces Leicester City Exit
Jamie Vardy, Leicester City's talismanic captain, has announced he will leave the club at the end of the current season — but he has no plans to retire from football just yet.
Leicester’s Tribute: “Our Greatest Ever Player”
The club described Vardy as their greatest-ever player in an emotional statement, acknowledging the impact he's had since his arrival in 2012 from non-league Fleetwood Town.
With 143 Premier League goals and 198 in total from 498 appearances, Vardy leaves behind a legacy few can match.
From Non-League to Premier League Champion
Vardy was a driving force in Leicester’s historic 2015–16 Premier League title win, scoring 24 goals and setting a record by scoring in 11 consecutive matches — a record that still stands today.
Emotional Farewell to the Foxes
“I’ve spent 13 unbelievable years at this club… Leicester will always have a massive place in my heart,” said Vardy in a farewell video.
Despite his departure, Vardy made it clear that he’s not retiring:
“I may be 38, but I still have the desire and ambition to achieve so much more.”
A Storybook Career
Loyalty Through Relegation
Even after Leicester’s relegation in 2023, Vardy stayed with the club, scoring 18 goals in the Championship and guiding them back to the Premier League as captain.
He has played in 31 of 33 matches this season, scoring seven times. His final home game will be on May 18, when Leicester faces Ipswich at the King Power Stadium.
Praise from the Boss
Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy praised Vardy’s honesty, loyalty, and character:
“He’s stuck with the club through thick and thin… he isn’t hard to manage.”
End of an Era, Not the End of the Road
Though Leicester’s current campaign has been disappointing — Vardy called it "miserable" — his career with the Foxes has been nothing short of legendary.
And while his time at Leicester is ending, his football journey isn’t over yet.
